What should I do after a hit & run?
Oftentimes in New Jersey, people are involved in hit and run automobile accidents. So the other driver struck your vehicle and took off. I don’t want you run and chase down the vehicle, just remain put. If you have a chance to observe the license plate of the other driver, of course, write that down. If not, don’t panic there’s still a solution, first you are of course seek medical treatment, bring the authorities on the scene, go to the hospital, and do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself to make sure you’re okay.
However, in New Jersey, it is your automobile insurance under something called “Uninsured Motorist Coverage” that will give it an avenue for us to pursue on your behalf for what you’ve been through or what you may go through in the future. Don’t want to sue that because the other driver took off and the police informed you that they couldn’t locate the other driver, that there is no avenue to pursue just compensation for what you’ve been through.
So, please seek legal advice immediately because this can get quite complicated but we here at the Grossman Law Firm have been through thousands of these types of situations but we’re to help you with a compassionate voice, we have the knowledge and the skills to help you through this difficult process.
