NJ.com reported Monday that seven year old Sheyla Pichardo was struck and killed by a hit and run driver that morning in West New York. She was walking to school with her mother who was also hit by what is described as a black, late model Chevy Tahoe. The accident occurred near the intersection of 61st Street and VanBuren Place. The mother, Yeime Vital, 32, was taken to Palisades Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.
In a Tuesday morning follow on, NJ.com is reporting that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested by the West New York Police but that his identity has yet to be released. Witness are urged to come forth to help in the investigation. Contact either the West New York Police Department or the Hudson County Sheriff’s office.
Update: pix11.com is reporting that two arrests have been made in this case. The two are Fabian Rodriguez, 33, and 26-year-old Joanna Rosas-Alvarez. Also, pix11.com is posting the victim’s name as Shayla and not Sheyla.
